Have these kind of thoughts crossed your mind?
- “I don’t know what is expected of me at work.”
- “I don’t feel challenged anymore and I’m getting bored at work.”
- “I think someone at work is harassing me.”
- “I don’t appreciate the way my boss spoke to me.”
- “My team isn’t performing the way I need them to.”
- “I wonder if we’re going to be receiving end of year bonuses.”
- “What do I do if somebody on my team gets injured”
If any of these thoughts have crossed your mind, you should definitely communicate your concerns in order to resolve the issue. Make sure you communicate effectively.
How do I communicate effectively?
- Create the right environment by choosing the right time to communicate, being open about your concerns and by removing any distractions from your environment.
- Organize your communications by clarifying your ideas or concerns, speaking clearly, staying on topic and thanking your listeners for listening.
- Make your listeners comfortable, be articulate and speak clearly, talk with expression in order to keep your listeners interested and listen with care.
- Use body language to your advantage by being clear and unambiguous with your expressions, don’t overdo your expressions as this could make you seem nervous. Maintain eye contact with your listeners and remember to be confident.
- Ensure that you understand and follow the correct communication lines within the organization.
Hint: Going over somebody’s head, by skipping a step in the communication line without permission, is not a good idea. Refrain from doing this, unless there is a serious issue which your supervisor is unwilling or unable to assist you with.
To achieve success, we need to ensure effective communication with everybody involved in the task.
Are you still unhappy at work and you don’t feel like you’re going in the right direction in terms of job satisfaction?
Then it’s time to make a change. Remember that you are the captain of your ship.
There’s that saying, “change is as good as a holiday”and it’s true.
I would like to end off by saying that you should take your time defining your career, because it’s something you will most probably be shaping for the rest of your life.
